I'm a Celebrity

On Feb. 5, 2010, the NY Times published an article, entitled "An Offensive Tackle Named Shlomo," by Samuel Freedman, about a Jewish player for the Green Bay Packers, named Alan Veingrad. After living most of his life as a non-observant Jew, he accepted an invitation to Rosh Hashana services during his first season with Green Bay.

" 'When I heard the Hebrew, I felt a pull.' ” The article then goes on:

"Maybe it was a presentiment, maybe it was the sort of destiny that Yiddish calls 'goyrl.' "

(please note the handy Yiddish-English Dictionary link under "Links I Like").

So if, like my mother, you ever wondered what the name of my blog meant, you can thank the NY Times.
